Kara McGrane has been painting since she was a young girl. She created her first pet portrait in 2018, and has been fine tuning her craft ever since. Graduating from the University of Montana with a Fine Arts Degree – specializing in drawing, McGrane has a deep love for capturing the personality of animals in her art. She has two furry friends of her own – Maple and Dolina. They can often be spotted hiking on a trail in Missoula Montana.
Attending local markets and art fairs, participating in public art calls, and connecting with the wonderful artistic community in Missoula, MT provides McGrane with endless inspiration. Her artwork is on display at the Russell and Wyoming traffic signal box – this piece features multiple dogs, in her signature art style. Her two dogs, Dolina and Maple, are featured on top!
The cat that started it all…
Kara had dabbled in pet portraiture starting in September 2018. She quickly fell in love with process of painting other people’s pets – and Companion Portraits was born soon after. Salix, Kara’s cat, became the face of the new business, and is still the logo today!
